Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is a 14 floor adult hospital building designed and built to replace four ageing hospitals across Glasgow, some of which date back to Victorian times. Officially opened by Queen Elizabeth in July 2015, the new build hospital is set over 26,000 sq. metres and is one of the biggest critical care complexes in Europe. The main hospital has a total of 1109 individual patient bedrooms and is integrated with a 256 bed children’s hospital. These hospitals combined together make up the largest single NHS hospital in Scotland.
Approximately 40,000 linear metres of Inpro® wall protection were used within the hospital, which equates to roughly 25 miles of product.
To meet the needs of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital a broad range of wall protection products were specified. A combination of handrails and wall guards were installed to provide support and guidance for individuals, whilst also providing some protection from impact in areas that experience high volumes of pedestrian and wheeled traffic. Other products used within the project were high impact corner guards to protect the most vulnerable parts of the building and Sanparrel™ Rigid Sheet to help reduce and conceal the effects of impact and abrasion.
